ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team closed out its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series at Humboldt State on Saturday, falling 7-4 in game one before an 8-0 eight-run rule nightcap at HSU Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jacks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame, knocking out five hits.
- HSU added another run in the bottom of the fourth on Micaela Harris' RBI single through the right side.
- Machrone got things started with a solo home run in the top of the fifth while four more singles and a sacrifice fly evened the game at 4-4.
- HSU's Danica Grier hit a two-run jack to left center before a CSUSM error put the Jacks back on top at 7-4 in the sixth.

- The Cougars fall to 11-25 (7-22 CCAA) while the Jacks improved to 18-23 (9-20).
- Reliever Carly Slack (3-6) took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Danica Grier hit a solo home run, and Mullins followed with an RBI double in the bottom of the first to give HSU a 2-0 lead.
- The Cougars held the Jacks scoreless in the second, allowing just one hit.
- In the third, a two-RBI single by Mullins and an RBI double by Suter made it 5-0.
- After scoring a run on a CSUSM error in the fourth, the Jacks drew a bases-loaded walk before ending the game with the eight-run rule on another error by the Cougars in the fifth.
