Cougars Post First CCAA Tournament Win

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team collected its first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament win on Tuesday with a 75-69 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars took a 42-34 lead into the break after shooting 50.0 percent (16-of-32) from the field.
  • At the 4:16 mark in the third quarter, Hackson was fouled on a 3-pointer and sunk all three free throws to put CSUSM up by 10 points (52-42).  
  • The Toros opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run to cut CSUSM's lead to 59-53 at the 7:56 mark. 
  • CSUDH cut the lead to four at 71-67 with 38 seconds remaining on a layup by Nautica Morrow.
  • Custodio concluded the game with four consecutive free throws to secure the win.
 
FAST BREAKS
  • With the win, the Cougars (18-9) extend their winning streak to seven games.
  • CSUDH ends its season with a 14-15 record.
  • The Toros got 17 points from their bench.
  • CSUSM went 20-of-24 from the charity stripe.
  • The Cougars held the lead for just over 37 of the 40 minutes.
  • CSUSM had the advantage in assists (14-3) and blocked shots (6-3).
  • CSUDH tallied 45 rebounds with 16 coming on the offensive side.
  • Hackson's five blocked shots tied a single-game record with Lupe Cruz recording it twice in the 2016-17 season.
