Cougars Drop Doubleheader to Stanislaus State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team was swept in its doubleheader against Stanislaus State by scores of 17-7 and 11-4 on Saturday at CSUSM Baseball Field.
 
GAME 1: CSUSM 7 – STAN STATE 17

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring with a bases-loaded walk by Garcia before an RBI fielder's choice by Bahna and a Warrior error that plated another CSUSM run.
  • CSUSM took a 4-0 lead on an RBI single down the right field line by Van Til in the bottom of the second inning.
  • A five-run inning by Stan State in the top of the third gave the Warriors a 5-4 lead thanks to a solo home run, two RBI singles and a two-run double.
  • The Warriors went up 6-4 in the fourth with a Grant Victor RBI single.
  • After Stan State plated a run on a CSUSM in the top of the fifth, a sacrifice fly by Bahna cut the deficit to 7-5.
  • The Warriors posted another five-run inning in the top of the sixth on three RBI singles and two wild pitches.
  • After Buck brought home a run with a bases-loaded walk, Garcia hit an RBI single to short to cut Stan State's lead to 12-7.
  • The Warriors ended the game with three runs in the eighth and two more runs in the ninth to go up 17-7.

  • A leadoff homer by Diggs in the bottom of the first gave CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
  • Stan State went up 4-1 in the second inning off an RBI double, an RBI triple and two sacrifice flies.
  • The Warriors posted their third five-run inning of the day in the fourth with a two-RBI double, an RBI single, a bases-loaded walk and a CSUSM error.
  • Down 9-1 in the sixth, the Cougars cut the deficit with an RBI double by Buck and a two-run single through the left side by Bahna.
  • The Warriors went up 11-4 in the seventh as Grant Victor got on base with an RBI double before later scoring on a wild pitch.
