CSUSM Drops Sunday Doubleheader at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped both games of its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay by scores of 4-2 and 3-2 on Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex.
 
GAME 1: CSUMB 4 – CSUSM 2
 
TOP PERFORMERS
Melody Forstie – 2-for-3 | 2 SB

Nikki Andelin – 1-for-3 | 1 R | 1 SB
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A double steal with Forstie taking second and Andelin coming home gave CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
  • A Courtney Hennings RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Lusi Stanley gave CSUMB a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • The Otters extended their lead to 3-1 on a two-out RBI single by Marissa Hukkanen.
  • Another sacrifice fly by CSUMB made it 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
  • In the top of the seventh, Wood crushed a solo home run over the left center wall to cut CSUSM's deficit to 4-2.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars fall to 7-16 and 6-15 in CCAA play while the Otters improved to 16-12, 13-10 conference action.
  • Ellie Smith took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in three innings of action in the circle.
  • Carly Slack tossed three shutout innings in relief, giving up only two hits while striking out two batters.
  • Hayley Fein threw a complete game to earn the win, relinquishing two runs on four hits and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Otters took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Burt.
  • Scardina and Wood both scored on a CSUMB error in the top of the second to snag away the lead at 2-1.
  • CSUMB evened the game at 2-2 on a Shaye Felix RBI single down the left field line in the bottom of the second.
  • An RBI double by Michaela Decker put the Otters back on top in the fourth inning at 3-2.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars drop to 7-17 and 6-16 in CCAA action while the Otters improved to 17-12, 14-10 conference play.
  • Carly Slack took the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings in the circle.
  • Celecte Villagrana picked up her second win of the series after tossing a complete game, giving up two runs (none earned) on five hits and striking out four.
