Cougars Fall in Doubleheader at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped both ends of Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay by scores of 5-2 and 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Calderon's bases-loaded walk that plated Smith, who led off the inning with a single down the left field line.
  • The Otters responded with four runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by Lusi Stanley's two-run homer.
  • Wood's RBI double to right center that scored Calderon cut CSUSM's deficit to 4-2 in the top of the fourth.
  • CSUMB's final run came in the fifth inning on a Cougar error. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM dropped to 7-14 overall and 6-13 in CCAA play while the Otters moved up to 14-12, 11-10 in conference action.
  • Caitlin Vinyard took the loss after relinquishing four runs on eight hits and striking out three.
  • Carly Slack tossed 2.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one batter.
  • CSUMB's Hayley Fein snagged the win after tallying 10 strikeouts and giving up two runs on three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUMB took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on Courtney Hennings' three-run homer to center field.
  • A little bit of déjà vu occurred in the top of the fourth as the Cougars' first run came on a bases-loaded walk, this time with Munoz at the plate.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM falls to 7-15 overall and 6-14 in CCAA action while the Otters improve to 15-12, 12-10 in conference play.
  • Munoz took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in her six innings in the circle while striking out a season-high five batters.
  • CSUMB's Celeste Villagrana collected the win after tossing a three-hit complete game, allowing one run and striking out five.
