SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team took a series-opening 12-7 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters put up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning after getting on base with five hits and four walks.
- CSUMB went up 10-0 in the bottom of the second on a fielding error, a sacrifice fly to right and an RBI double down the right field line.
- With a runner on third and two outs in the top of the fourth, Andrew Garcia ripped an RBI double down the left field line to score Van Til and break the Cougars' scoreless streak.
- CSUMB took an 11-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth as Reed Oster hit a two-out RBI single to left to score TJ Dove from second.
- In the top of the seventh, the Cougars cut the deficit to 11-4 as Van Til cleared the bases with a three-run double down left field line.
- A solo shot by the Otters' Kyle Guerra put CSUMB back up 12-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
- After Van Til walked and stole second in the ninth, Grant Buck hit a two-out RBI double to cut the Otters' lead to 12-5.
- With the bases loaded and two outs, Teisher hit a two-run single to right center, trimming the deficit to 12-7.

- CSUSM drops to 11-16 (7-14 CCAA) while CSUMB improves to 16-11 (14-7 CCAA).
- The Cougars had four extra-base hits compared to the Otters' two.
- This was Van Til's 19th game of the season with at least two hits.
