Cougars Improve to 4-0 with Road Win at CUI

IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team earned its fourth consecutive victory to start the 2019 season as the Cougars defeated Concordia Irvine by score of 9-8 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon at Eagles Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM went up 1-0 in the very first inning with an RBI single by Antonacci into left.
  • CUI took a brief 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second with a home run by Cooper Moore and an RBI single by Alex DiMascio.
  • The Cougars knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the third with an RBI single down the right-field line.
  • A three-RBI double to left by Antonacci gave CSUSM a 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
  • The Cougars scored two runs in the sixth as Ott hit an RBI single to right center before Buck earned an RBI on a groundout to first.
  • Näshéa Diggs put the Cougars up 8-2 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to right.
  • The Eagles made a late run in the eighth and ninth innings as they pushed three runs in each to tie the game at 8-8 and send the contest into extra innings.
  • CSUSM got the run it needed in the top of the 10th thanks to an RBI single to short by Buck.
  • Ott (1-0) shut the door on CUI in the bottom of the 10th with two strikeouts and lineout to pick up the win.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM moves to 4-0 for the first time in program history while CUI drops to 0-3.
  • Cougar starting pitcher Mike Lopez put together another good outing as he threw seven innings, struck out four and allowed just two runs on nine hits.
  • CUI shortstop Haloa Dudoit was the only player to have more than two hits as he finished the game 4-for-6.
  • CUI reliever Nick Manago took the loss and moved to 0-1 on the season.
  • Ott tallied the 34th double of his career to tie former Cougar Trent Jemmett (2011-12) for the fifth-most doubles in program history.

CSUSM will complete its series against CUI on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. in Irvine.
