Cougars Snag 72-64 Victory at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team captured a 72-64 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory at Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got out to a quick 6-2 lead in the first three minutes.
  • CSUSM held a 17-14 lead after the first quarter with six different Cougars collecting points and Forel leading the way with five points.
  • A pair of free throws from Hackson put CSUSM back on top at 28-26 at halftime after the Cougars trailed a majority of the second quarter.
  • The Cougars broke a 30-30 tie with a 12-4 run to take a 42-34 lead into a CSUSB timeout at 5:46 in the third quarter.
  • CSUSM took its largest lead of the game at 67-55 on Davina Del Castillo's layup with 53 seconds remaining in the game.
  • The Cougars shot 72.7 percent (24-of-33) at the charity stripe while CSUSB's performance was 53.3 percent (8-of-15).

FAST BREAKS
  • The Cougars improve to 11-8 overall and 8-7 in CCAA action while the Coyotes fall to 9-12, 8-9 in conference play.
  • CSUSM narrowly missed out on winning every quarter, taking the first quarter and both quarters in the second half. The Cougars were outscored 12-11 in the second quarter.
  • Vermillion reached the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season with four field goals and went 12-of-14 from the free throw line.
  • CSUSB was led by Jasmine Sauser's 28 points.
