Cougars Win Five-Set Thriller at Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. – Playing its first five-set match of the season, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team walked away with the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory at Humboldt State on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got off to a slow start, but a 6-1 run to make it 16-11 gave CSUSM the cushion to cruise to a 25-22 victory.
  • Once again, the Lumberjacks jumped out to a big lead, yet this time they were able to maintain it to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 win.
  • CSUSM fought tooth and nail to snag the third set, 25-21, to get back on top at 2-1. The Cougars tallied their highest attack percentage of the night, racking up 19 kills for a .412 clip.
  • The Lumberjacks were not going to go quietly into the night, registering a 25-16 win in the fourth set to force a fifth set.
  • With seven ties in the fifth set, the Cougars closed out the match with four unanswered points to record the victory.

  • CSUSM improves to 14-7 (8-4 CCAA) while HSU falls to 5-12 (1-9 CCAA).
  • With UC San Diego's loss at Sonoma State, the Cougars are now in sole possession of third place in the CCAA South Division standings.

  • Vander Weide matched her career-high 19 kills that she first accomplished against Stanislaus State on Oct. 18.
  • With the win, the Cougars extend their winning streak against the Lumberjacks to four.
