HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 16-12, Newcombe served up six consecutive points, including an ace, to put CSUSM up 18-16 in the opening set. The Tritons closed out the set with a 5-1 run to claim the win at 25-22.
- UCSD got out early and forced the Cougars to play catchup until a Newcombe kill evened the match at 20-20.
- CSUSM opened the third set on fire with seven unanswered points. The Tritons charged back to take the set at 25-21 with a 16-3 run. Â
