SAN MARCOS, Calif. – All fall sports will be in action for Cal State San Marcos Athletics this week.

Women's golf will get the week started at the DII National Preview in St. Albans, Missouri, on Monday and Tuesday.

Men's golf will be competing in the Sierra Central Wildcat Classic in Chico on Monday and Tuesday.

Women's and men's soccer will play their final two regular-season home games on Friday and Sunday against Stanislaus State and Chico State at The Cage. Friday's games against the Warriors will take place at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. while Sunday's Senior Day contests against the Wildcats will get underway at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Prior to each game on Sunday, the Cougars will honor their seniors.

Volleyball will also host Stanislaus State and Chico State this weekend at The Sports Center. Friday's match against the Warriors will get underway at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest against the Wildcats will begin at 3 p.m.

Men's and women's cross country will compete in their final races before the CCAA Championships by traveling up to Riverside for the UCR Highlander Invitational. The men's 8k will get underway at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the women's 6k at 8:45 a.m.

LAST OUTING
- CSUSM finished in 12th place at the RJGA South-Central Preview on Oct. 1 with a 39-over 903.
- Senior Justin Vrzich jumped up 23 spots to tie for 24th place after carding a 1-under 71 in the final round, finishing the tournament with a three-round 6-over 22 total.
- With that performance, Vrzich collected his first career CCAA Golfer of the Week honor.
SIERRA CENTRAL WILDCAT CLASSIC
- The tournament has had many different names throughout the years including Interwest Wildcat Classic, Wells Fargo Invitational and Coldwell Banker/DuFour Realty Invite.
- This marks the fourth Chico State tournament that CSUSM has competed in since the golf program began in 1999.
- The Cougars most recently placed eighth out of 11 teams in 2017.
- In 2015, CSUSM won the tournament by six strokes over host Chico State, and Dylan Healey was the individual medalist after firing a 5-under 211.
- CSUSM's first tournament in program history was the Chico State Coldwell Banker/Dufour Realty Invite in 1999. The Cougars placed fourth out of 10 teams and Dan Anderson was CSUSM's top golfer with a sixth-place finish after carding a 6-over 222.Â

- The Cougars captured their second consecutive tournament victory at the Dixie State Fall Invitational, topping Simon Fraser by two strokes after putting together a late surge in the final round.

THE HUTTON FILE
- Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men's program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women's head coach in 2014.
- The CSUSM women's team was the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up, led by National Champion Jaime Jacob.
- Under Hutton's leadership, the women's team won CSUSM's first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018 and the Cougars defended their title in 2019.
- In CSUSM's first year of being a full-fledged member of the NCAA Division II in 2017-18, the Cougar men's and women's golf teams each qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.Â

PREVIOUS WEEK
- The Cougars went 2-1 this past week with sweeps over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Pomona. Their only loss was to No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino, who they took to four sets on Friday.
- CSUSM is the first team to take the opening set from top-ranked CSUSB this season. The Coyotes have only lost five sets in 2019.
- In Saturday's sweep at CPP, the Cougars hit a season-best .330. Their previous-best outing was also against the Broncos as they hit .306 on Sept. 28 in The Sports Center.
- For the first time since joining the CCAA, the Cougars went an entire set without making a hitting error, which they achieved during the second set at CPP.

UPCOMING RACE
- This will be the third time the Cougars are competing in the UCR Highlander Invitational since becoming a member of the CCAA.

THE OLSON FILE
- Head coach Torrey Olson begins his second season at the helm of the men's and women's cross country after taking over in the summer of 2018.
- Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
- Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art.
- In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
- A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
