SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team collected a doubleheader split at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. The Cougars recorded a 22-12 win in the opener before falling 14-2 in the series finale.
Junior
Austin Ott went 5-for-9 on the day with four runs including his fourth home run of the season. Senior
Aidan Stinnett tallied four hits and seven RBIs in addition to his seventh homer of 2018.
The Cougars will conclude their 2018 campaign next week, hosting UC San Diego on Thursday and Friday. Both games begin at 3 p.m.
GAME 1: CSUSM 22 – CSUSB 12
The Cougars recorded a season-high 22 runs against the Coyotes, tallying 23 hits and committed no errors.
The Cougars entered the third inning tied at 2-2 after a junior
Cabot Van Til home run. CSUSM's offense exploded in the fourth, scoring six runs on seven hits including junior
Marcus Wilhite's two-run homer.
CSUSB took a 9-8 lead after recording seven runs in the bottom of the fifth that included five walks and a home run by Alec Ceniceros.
CSUSM wasted no time retaking the lead, posting eight runs in the top of the sixth. Junior
Isaias Torres hit a two-run home run while senior
Tyler Place and Van Til hit back-to-back 2-RBI doubles.
The Cougars tacked on three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, highlighted by Stinnett's two-run homer.
Sophomore
Griffin Teisher collected the win after going 4.1 innings, striking out four batters.
GAME 2: CSUSB 14 – CSUSM 2
The Coyotes struck early, scoring 10 runs in the second inning before cruising to a 14-2 victory while racking up 19 hits.
Junior
Näshéa Diggs went 2-for-3 with a run.
