CSUSM's 11th Hour Rally Falls Short in 12th Inning

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 11-7 in 12 innings to Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
 
Junior Austin Ott went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Senior Aidan Stinnett tallied two hits, two RBIs and two runs in the game.
 
Stinnett's sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast, in the bottom of the 12th inning wasn't enough. The Cougars surrendered six runs on three hits including an inside-the-park grand slam by Erick Allegro in the top of the frame.
 
CSUSM took a 5-2 lead into the top of the ninth before relinquishing three runs on two hits and three Cougar errors.
 
The Cougars took an 1-0 lead in the first frame on Ott's RBI bloop single to right field that scored Stinnett after he reached on an error.
 
The Coyotes evened the game in the top of the third, taking advantage of a CSUSM error.
 
A Kyle Csakan RBI single put CSUSB up 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, CSUSM tied the game at 2-2 after Ott sent the ball over the left field wall four his fourth home run.
 
The Cougars pushed three runs across on four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Marcus Wilhite drew a walk and scored on junior Joseph Bahna's double that hugged the left line all the way to the corner. Junior Adam Tanoue hit a RBI single to left center and later scored on Ott's single to right to put CSUSM up 5-2.
 
Gabe Chavez and Allegrio each had three hits for CSUSB.
 
The Cougars travel to San Bernardino to conclude their four-game series against the Coyotes on Sunday, April 29. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
