SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped a 4-3 decision to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday afternoon in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series opener.
The Cougars fall to 19-24 overall and 14-23 in conference play. The Coyotes improve to 12-31 on the season and 12-25 in CCAA action.
Senior
Aidan Stinnett went 3-for-5 with one run while junior
Austin Ott tallied two hits and a RBI.
All four CSUSB's runs came in the opening inning as the Coyotes racked up four of their 10 hits highlighted by Gabe Chavez's RBI triple.
In the bottom of the first, Stinnett hit a two-out double to right center and Ott drove him in on a hit that got lost in the outfield signage that was deemed a RBI ground-ruled double.
CSUSM put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore
Griffin Teisher drew a leadoff walk and advanced two bases on groundouts. Junior
Cabot Van Til singled through the left side to plate Teisher. Van Til scored when Stinnett reached third base on a dropped ball by CSUSB's right fielder.
CSUSB's Erick Allegro went 2-for-3 with a run.
The Cougars are back in action against the Coyotes on Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m. at CSUSM Baseball Field.
