Cougars Drop Series Finale to No. 14 CSUMB, 4-2

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team was unable to close the gap despite matching No. 14 Cal State Monterey Bay's hits, falling 4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) series finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (13-17, 8-16 CCAA) tallied 10 singles with senior Tyler Place recording three of them. The Otters also had had 10 hits with two being doubles.

CSUMB posted two runs on two hits and a CSUSM error in the third inning.

A RBI single by T.J. Dove in the fourth extended the Otter lead to 3-0.

CSUSM cut the gap to one run with a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, taking advantage of a wild pitch and on junior Joseph Bahna's sacrifice fly.

CSUMB's final run came on a passed ball in the seventh inning.

Junior Brandon Bachman (3-3) went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits and struck out five.

CSUMB's Ethan McRae (4-0) collected the win after relinquishing one run on six hits in five innings on the hill. Connor Fabing (5) recorded his second save of the weekend.

The Cougars take to the road next weekend, traveling to Turlock to take on Stanislaus State.
