Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Slow Start Hampers CSUSM at SSU

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A tough early start hampered the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team as the Cougars fell to Sonoma State, 75-69, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.

Senior Savannah Camp's school-record performance of 32 points wasn't enough as SSU shot 50.0 percent from the field. She topped her previous single game record of 29 points set on December 31, 2016 against Cal State L.A.

The Cougars fall to 7-8 in CCAA action (7-12 overall) while the Seawolves improved to 6-11 in conference and 9-12 on the season.

Camp went 12-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc to lead the Cougars. Senior Lupe Cruz narrowly missed out on her third double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Classmate Raegan Lillie notched 11 points and five assists.

The Cougars found themselves down 21-14 after the first quarter and trailed 38-29 at the halftime break.

A Lillie 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining in the fourth quarter cut the SSU lead to 59-55, but the Seawolves would go on a 6-0 run. The Cougars would cut the gap to four points again with another 3-pointer, this time by Camp, to make it 71-67 with just under a minute remaining. SSU would make 4-of-6 at the charity stripe to clinch the win.

SSU's Ugochi Anudokem tallied 23 points while Kim Savio clinched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cougars conclude their three-game road trip with a stop at Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
