SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team cruised to a 71-63 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over Cal State L.A. on Thursday night at The Sports Center.
The Cougars maintained control of the lead entire 40 minutes, extending the gap by as many as 16 points in the first quarter.
With the win, CSUSM improves to 8-17 on the season and 8-13 in conference action. The Golden Eagles fall to 14-13 overall, 13-8 CCAA play.
Seniors
Raegan Lillie and
Savannah Camp each reached double-digits in scoring, finishing with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Senior
Lupe Cruz narrowly missed out on a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
CSUSM came out of the gate hot, taking a commanding 25-14 lead after the first quarter. CSULA charged back to cut the Cougar lead to 37-31 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles closed the gap to 51-46 at the start of the fourth quarter, but a CSUSM 10-2 run capped by sophomore
Brianna Porter's layup at 6:25 minute mark gave the Cougars back their cushion.
Rachael DiRegolo led CSULA's offense with 14 points while Rikke Fabricius notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars will conclude their 2017-18 season on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills. Prior to tip-off, there will be a senior presentation honoring seven Cougars:
