SAN MARCOS, Calif. – A late charge by the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team came up short as it fell 62-58 against visiting No. 9 UC San Diego in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tritons got on the board first and never looked back, holding a 35-15 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.
- CSUSM trailed 45-28 at the break after shooting 38.5 percent from the field while the Tritons turned in a 48.4 field-goal percentage.
- The Cougars cut UCSD's lead to 52-44 on a 3-pointer by Asa Cantwell at the 11:37 mark of the second half.
- A 9-0 run by the Cougars made it a two-point ballgame at 55-53 UCSD with 4:46 remaining.
- A layup by JR Williams evened the game at 56-56 with 1:55 on the clock.
- UCSD's Tyrell Roberts broke the tie with a 3-pointer at the 1:39 mark.
- The final minute came down to free throws with the Tritons going 3-of-4 and Fuller making both of his shots at the charity stripe.
FAST BREAKS
- The Cougars fall to 3-6 overall (0-3 CCAA) while the Tritons move up to 7-1 (4-0 CCAA).
- CSUSM's defense held the Tritons to just 11.5 percent (3-of-26) from the field in the second half.
- Fuller's double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds was his third of the season.
- UCSD held the advantage in rebounds (40-32), assists (12-9), steals (11-8) and blocked shots (4-1).
- The Cougars ended the game shooting 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the field while the Tritons shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57).
- Of CSUSM's 58 points, 32 points came in the paint while only 14 of UCSD's 62 points came inside.
