SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team clinched a 64-57 victory in its home opener against Hawaii Pacific on Friday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• CSUSM held a 16-14 advantage after the first quarter. HPU only sunk 1-of-8 from the 3-point line.
• The Cougars went into the half with a 32-28 lead behind Vermillion's 10 points after outscoring the Sharks, 16-14.
• The third quarter was tightly contested as the Cougars outscored the Sharks, 15-14.
• CSUSM took its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter as it went up 64-55 with 15 seconds left to play.

• CSUSM improved to 1-0 on the season while Hawaii Pacific dropped to 0-1.
• The Cougars' victory was the first season-opening win in program history.
