SAN DIEGO – In the lead up to its 2018-19 season opener, the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team fell 64-55 in an exhibition to San Diego on Saturday afternoon at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars trailed the Toreros 20-19 after the first 10 minutes of play and shot 46.7 percent (7-of-15) while USD shot 41.2 percent (7-of-17).
- CSUSM got into foul trouble in the second quarter and allowed USD to go 7-for-11 from the foul line and go into the half with a 37-32 lead.
- USD outscored CSUSM 18-10 in the third period and ended the quarter on a 9-2 run.
- The Cougars outscored the Toreros 13-9 in the final quarter, but CSUSM only got within five points of the lead after trailing by as many as 13 points.

- The Cougars were a perfect 14-of-14 from the charity stripe.
- Both teams had 10 steals for the day.
- CSUSM had the slight advantage in assists at 9-8 and had one less turnover at 22-21.
- USD's Myah Pace tallied a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, two blocked shots and two assists.
- The Cougars' largest lead over the Toreros was four points in the first quarter at 6-2.
- CSUSM ended the game shooting 33.9 percent (19-of-56) while USD shot 35.8 percent (19-of-53).
- This is the second consecutive season in which the Cougars have lost an exhibition to a NCAA Division I opponent by less than 10 points.
