SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team nearly pulled off a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) upset on Tuesday night, eventually falling to No. 14 Cal State L.A. in five sets at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, the Cougars struggled with terminating the ball as CSULA recorded 19 kills to CSUSM's eight.
- A 7-1 Cougar run was the turning point in the second set, forcing the Golden Eagles to take a timeout at 11-8 CSUSM. The Cougars closed out the set with a 6-1 run.
- CSUSM recorded five blocks in the second set as CSULA finished with 10 attack errors and two service errors.
- The Cougars went up 2-1 after closing the third set with a 6-2 run capped by a Fortuné kill.Â
- CSULA hit a match-high .382 with 16 kills while recording four aces in the fourth set.
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead and extended it to 11-2 in the fifth set. The Cougars charged back with a block by Fortuné and Aguilar to cut the lead to four points (12-8). CSUSM brushed off two match points before falling 15-10. Â Â
