SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team put together a strong second half to record a 57-49 win at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon in the Otter Sports Center.
The Cougars went on an 11-2 run in the final seven minutes to clinch their first road victory of the season.
"I'm proud of our kids for really locking down defensively in the fourth to close out the game," said head coach
Renee Jimenez. "We still have to keep getting better and learn that when we have leads at half time, we need to fight harder to protect those leads. It wasn't our prettiest win but we take them when we can and we don't give them back."
With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-6 in conference play (4-10 overall) while the Otters drop to 4-13, 3-9 in CCAA action.
Senior
Savannah Camp registered a game-high 17 points after shooting 57.1 percent (8-of-14). Junior
Juliet Jones chipped in 11 points and four assists. Sophomore
Brianna Porter added nine points and six rebounds.
The CSUSM defense held the Otters to an impressive 25.0 field goal percentage, their second lowest of the season, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field.
Brianna Tucker led the Otter offense with 11 points.
The Cougars take a week off before taking the court again in The Sports Center, hosting Stanislaus State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
