SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball team will return to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play and hosts No. 13 Chico State on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. Action will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. The first 50 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a free CSUSM Athletics umbrella.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM went 0-4 last week, suffering doubleheader sweeps against No. 25 California Baptist and at Concordia-Irvine.
- Freshman pitcher Cheyenne Alvarez has the ninth best ERA in the CCAA at 2.02.
- Lindsay Cerulle is fourth in the conference in sacrifice hits with nine.
CHICO STATE BREAKDOWN
- Chico State is ranked 13th nationally and sits in fourth in the CCAA standings. The Wildcats are 25-6 overall and 15-5 in conference play.
- Chico State ace Haley Gilham has the second-lowest ERA in the CCAA at 0.91 in 107.1 innings pitched. She leads the league in opponent batting average at .206.
- Cailin Garmon is the top hitter for the Wildcats with a .462 batting average and 29 steals. Ari Marsh is Chico State's leader in RBI with 32.
- Head coach Angel Shamblin is in her eighth season.
ARIZAGA NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga was named the CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27 - March 5.
- She went 8-for-15 with five RBI, five runs, three doubles and a home run as the Cougars took three of four games from Cal State East Bay
- Arizaga went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI as the Cougars won game two, 4-1.
- In game three, she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a home run as CSUSM defeated the Pioneers, 8-7, in nine innings.
COACH NEVAREZ
- Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her fourth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2017.
- Hired in 2014, Nevarez put together an 83-61-1 (.576) record in her first three years.
- Over her 13-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 402-177-2 (.694) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
THE CCAA
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
