SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team was victorious on Friday afternoon, recording a 7-3 win over visiting Cal State San Bernardino in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest.
The Cougars improve to 16-27 overall and 6-25 in conference action. The Coyotes drop to 11-32 on the season and 8-23 in CCAA play.
Junior shortstop
Tyler Place went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and his second home run of 2017. Junior outfielder
Colin Dvorak also had a 2-for-4 afternoon with one run, a RBI and a double.
The Coyotes scored first as Dillion Fahr hit a leadoff single and later scored on Lucas Martinez's two-out double down the left line.
With one out in the bottom of the first, Place crushed the ball on a 1-0 pitch to the deepest part of the ballpark to make it a 1-1 ballgame.
CSUSB retook the lead at 2-1 on Dominic Campeau's RBI single through the left side that narrowly got through the left side alley.

Jose Osete surprised the Coyotes with a first-pitch leadoff bunt for a single and advanced on junior
Nico Maida's single up the middle. CSUSB starting pitcher Sabino Ramirez would walk the next three CSUSM batters to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead before being replaced. CSUSM's final two runs of the inning came on a wild pitch and an infield fly rule, double play, making it 5-2 Cougars.
The Coyotes would notch one more run in the top of the seventh inning before CSUSM secured the win with two insurance runs on Place's two-out single laced up the middle in the eighth.
Junior
Alex Wall (3-5) collected the win after going six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out four. Ramirez (3-9) went four innings, relinquished five runs on five hits and five walks to take the loss. Senior
Taylor Ahearn earned his first save, going 1.1 hitless innings with one strikeout.
The two teams will square off in a doubleheader in San Bernardino on Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m.
