Cougars Fall in Series Finale to Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 8-4 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game at Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday afternoon at Scolinos Field.
 
The Cougars drop to 15-27 overall and 5-25 in conference play. The Broncos improve to 25-18 on the season and 21-11 in CCAA action.
 
Sophomore Mark Van Skike came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Freshman third baseman Reed LaBar notched two hits including a double.
 
The Broncos put together three hits and took advantage of two CSUSM errors to put up four runs in the second inning.
 
CSUSM answered with two runs in the next frame. Van Skike took a jammed shot and sent it over the right side of the infield to push freshman outfielder Jose Osete and junior second baseman Nico Maida across the plate. 
 
CPP spread out four runs over the middle three frames to take an 8-2 lead over CSUSM.
 
The Cougars attempted a ninth inning rally, recording two runs after freshman pinch hitter Kevin Britt smoked the ball down the right field line for a RBI double and sophomore catcher Isaias Torres followed with a sacrfice fly.
 
Jason Paldo led the Bronco offense, going 3-for-4 with a run.

CPP's Kyle Dohy (5-2) notched the win after going six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out eight. Senior Taylor Ahearn (6-7) recorded the loss after relinquishing eight runs (five earned) on 13 hits in seven innings. 

 
The Cougars host Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, April 28 at 3 p.m.
