SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The season schedule doesn't get any easier for the Cal State San Marcos softball team. The Cougars will face another top 25 team for the fourth straight week, this time at No. 5 Humboldt State for a four-game series. The teams will play doubleheaders on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14. Both days are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. With scheduled showers around the Arcata area, the HSU Softball Field may be deemed unplayable. If that is the case, the series will be moved to McKinleyville High School. If the series is moved to McKinleyville High School, Thursday's games will start at 10 a.m. (weather pending) and action Friday will begin at noon. Follow us on

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM went 1-3 in a four-game series to then-No. 13 Chico State last week. The Cougars fell 6-0, 4-3 and 1-0 in the first three games before rebounding with a trouncing 5-0 win in game four.
- Freshman pitcher Cheyenne Alvarez has the sixth best ERA in the CCAA at 2.01.
- Lindsay Cerulle is fifth in the conference in sacrifice hits with 10.
HUMBOLDT STATE BREAKDOWN
- Humboldt State is ranked fifth nationally and sits in fourth in the CCAA standings. The Lumberjacks are 29-8 overall and 17-7 in conference play.
- As a team, Humboldt State leads the CCAA in home runs (36) and stolen bases (101).
- Lumberjack ace Madison Williams ranks first in the conference with 144 strikeouts and is second in ERA at 1.47.
- Head coach Shelli Sarchett is in her fourth season at the helm.
ARIZAGA NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga was named the CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27 - March 5.
- She went 8-for-15 with five RBI, five runs, three doubles and a home run as the Cougars took three of four games from Cal State East Bay
- Arizaga went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI as the Cougars won game two, 4-1.
- In game three, she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a home run as CSUSM defeated the Pioneers, 8-7, in nine innings.
COACH NEVAREZ
- Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her fourth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2017.
- Hired in 2014, Nevarez put together an 83-61-1 (.576) record in her first three years.
- Over her 13-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 402-177-2 (.694) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
THE CCAA
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
