SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball team will continue California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at San Francisco State. The two teams will play doubleheaders on Friday, March 10 starting at noon and Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM won its first series of the year last week, taking three of four games from Cal State East Bay. The Cougars fell in game one 3-2 in extra innings before earning wins of 4-1, 8-7 in nine innings and 7-2.
- Freshman pitcher Cheyenne Alvarez currently has the fifth best ERA in the CCAA at 1.59.
- Freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga is currently sixth in the CCAA in batting average at .465.
SAN FRANCISCO STATE BREAKDOWN
- San Francisco State is 4-10 overall and 10th in the conference with a 3-9 record.
- Megan Clark is the top hitter for the Gators with a .421 batting average.
- Clark also pitches for SFSU, currently sporting an ERA of 3.80.
- Head coach Lisa McKinney is in her second year at the helm.
ARIZAGA NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga was named the CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27 - March 5.
- She went 8-for-15 with five RBI, five runs, three doubles and a home run as the Cougars took three of four games from Cal State East Bay
- Arizaga went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI as the Cougars won game two, 4-1.
- In game three, she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a home run as CSUSM defeated the Pioneers, 8-7, in nine innings.
COACH NEVAREZ
- Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her fourth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2017.
- Hired in 2014, Nevarez put together an 83-61-1 (.576) record in her first three years.
- Over her 13-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 402-177-2 (.694) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
THE CCAA
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
