SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team suffered a 3-0 setback to San Francisco State in the finale of a three-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) baseball series Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.
The Cougars fall to 13-15 overall and 3-13 in conference action. With the victory, the Gators (6-20, 4-14) win their first CCAA series of 2017.
Junior outfielder
Colin Dvorak collected two of CSUSM's five hits on the day.
The Cougars best chance in scoring came in the seventh inning when Dvorak led off with a double to left center. He advanced to third on a ground out but was left stranded.
Dvorak's two-out single in the fourth broke up SF State's Dillon Houser's no hitter.
Junior
Alex Wall tossed 4.2 innings of shutout baseball before a CSUSM error put runners on the corners. Zac Neumann singled to left center to put the Gators on the board.
Back-to-back doubles by Bryce Brooks and Jack Harris in the sixth extended the Gators' lead to 2-0.
SF State added an insurance run in the eighth on a RBI triple by Harris after Brooks hit a leadoff single.
Wall (2-3) went six innings on the hill, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out six.
Houser (1-5) also went six innings for the win and Matthew Hernandez earned his first save after three innings of work.
The Cougars face CCAA North Division leader Chico State in a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 1 in Chico.
