LOS ANGELES – Six student-athletes achieved California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship qualifiers for the Cal State San Marcos women's track & field team at the Oxy Distance Carnival at Bill Henry Track on the campus of Occidental College on Friday.
Senior
Raelyn Werley ran a personal best in the 5000m, registering a time of 17:15.04 to finish 14th overall. Her mark qualified her for the CCAA Championship and currently stands as the second-fastest in the conference this year. The time also reached the NCAA Division II provisional qualifier; however as Candidacy Year Three members of NCAA Division II, the Cougars are not eligible to compete at national championships.
In all, five Cougars achieved CCAA qualifiers in the 5000m, including junior
Natalie Rodriguez (17:33.47) who finished 26th and is now qualified in two events, having previously hit the standard in the 1500m. Joining Werley and Rodriguez were the trio of senior
Salena Gallardo (17:37.75), junior
Paula Stonehouse (17:52.51) and senior
Alyssa Omahen (18:23.03), who each established personal bests in the race. Rodriguez has the fourth-fastest time in the CCAA, while Gallardo's is the fifth-fastest.
