SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball team will return to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play by hosting a four-game series against Cal State East Bay. The two teams will play doubleheaders on Friday, March 3 starting at noon and Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM split a non-conference doubleheader at Azusa Pacific last week. In a battle of the Cougars, CSUSM came out on top in game one by a final score of 3-2. Both junior catcher Heather Rygg and freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga hit homers to lift CSUSM over APU. CSUSM was shutout in game two, 2-0. CSUSM was only able to muster one hit in the contest.
- Freshman pitcher Cheyenne Alvarez currently has the seventh best ERA in the CCAA at 1.83. She is eighth in the conference in strikeouts with 17.
- Freshman infielder Gabriela Arizaga is currently 11th in the CCAA in batting average at .429.
CAL STATE EAST BAY BREAKDOWN
- Cal State East Bay is 7-4 overall and tied for seventh in the CCAA with a 3-5 conference record.
- Ashley Allen and Courtney Leyba are the top two hitters for the Pioneers with batting averages of .419 and .417, respectively.
- Sara Fukushima has 14 RBI and five home runs on the season.
- Abby Greer is CSUEB's ace sporting a 3-3 record with an ERA of 1.52. She has 20 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.
- Head coach Claire Sua-Amundson is in her second year at the helm.
COACH NEVAREZ
- Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her fourth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2017.
- Hired in 2014, Nevarez put together an 83-61-1 (.576) record in her first three years.
- Over her 13-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 402-177-2 (.694) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
THE CCAA
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
