GAME 1: CSUSM 9 – SDC 8
Trailing 7-1 with one out in the top of the seventh, CSUSM head coach
Matt Guiliano subbed out his entire lineup except for the designated hitter. The move worked as relief pitcher
Cody Cox got the final two guys to pop up and CSUSM's offense got the spark it needed. In the bottom of the frame, the Cougars pushed across three runs on three hits and two walks to close the gap to 7-4.
The Cougars took advantage of three Hawk errors on top of their three singles to score five runs in the seventh inning. Junior
Riley Manquen laid a bunt down the first baseline to score pinch runner junior
Alex Wall to even the game at 7-7. Freshman
Riley Froom knocked a hard single to center field to push two more runs across the plate and to give CSUSM its first lead of the game at 9-7.
A RBI double by Caeden Barnes made it a one run game, but CSUSM freshman closer
Eric Sanchez forced a fly out and pop up to secure his first save of the year and the win. Freshman
Cody Cox notched the win after 1.2 innings of relief.
