SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team squeezed out a doubleheader sweep from University of Antelope Valley on Saturday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field. The Cougars dominated in game one with a score of 11-3 and recorded a 4-3 win in eight innings with a walk-off single by junior first baseman

The Cougars improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 3-7 overall.

J.T. Sole with four hits on the day. Place and Sole tallied three doubles and two doubles, respectively.
The Cougars conclude the four-game series with UAV with a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 12 beginning at 11 a.m.
GAME 1: CSUSM 11 – UAV 3
Senior
Taylor Ahearn notched his second win of 2017 after giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out six after eight innings on the hill.
CSUSM got on the board first with freshman designated hitter

The Cougars knocked in three more runs on four hits in the third inning. Freshman center fielder
Griffin Teisher led off the inning with a single up the middle and Place followed with a double down the right field line. Teisher plated on a groundout by freshman third baseman
Anthony Rodriguez. Garretson laid down a RBI double to the right field corner and later scored on senior right fielder
Colin Dvorak's hit.
Jake Harrison led off the fourth inning with a home run over the left field wall to give UAV its first run of the game.
Sole doubled down the left line and scored on junior second baseman
Nico Maida's bunt to make it 5-1 CSUSM in the fifth inning.
UAV added two more runs in the top of the sixth before the Cougars spread out six runs over their final three innings.
GAME 2: CSUSM 4 – UAV 3 (8 inn.)
Garretson gave CSUSM its first walk-off victory of 2017 with a RBI single in the eighth in a game that was planned to only go seven innings. Place doubled on a Texas Leaguer next to the left field foul line and scored on Garretson's single through the left side.
The Cougars found themselves trailing 3-0 in the second inning when UAV recorded two hits, a sac fly and took advantage of a CSUSM error.
CSUSM wasted no time answering with a run in the bottom of the frame when Garretson hit a leadoff single and later scored on a fielder's choice by Dvorak.
The Cougars evened the game in the bottom of the third on Rodriguez's RBI double and later scored on Sole's single through the left side.

Hayden Weir earned the win after three shutout innings on the mound, fanning three batters.
