SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team will host Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series this week. The doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 17, originally scheduled to be played at noon, will be moved up two hours to 10 a.m. to avoid inclement weather forecasted in the Southern California area. If fortunate enough to play, the Cougars and Coyotes are scheduled to play another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18 starting at noon.

THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM suffered a four-game sweep at UC San Diego. The Cougars took losses of 5-1, 8-3, 9-2 and 4-3. CSUSM had a chance to even the score in the seventh inning of the game four. With two outs and Lindsay Cerulle at first, Gabriela Arizaga hit a single to the outfield. Cerulle took second base and went for third, but was gunned down by UCSD center fielder Kelsi Maday to end the contest.
CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO BREAKDOWN
- Cal State San Bernardino is currently 5-3.
- The Coyotes lead the CCAA with a 1.04 ERA. Cassandra Williams has a 4-3 pitching record with a 0.98 ERA.
- Head coach Jim Maier is in his third year at the helm.
COACH NEVAREZ
- Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her fourth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2017.
- Hired in 2014, Nevarez put together an 83-61-1 (.576) record in her first three years.
- Over her 13-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 402-177-2 (.694) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
THE CCAA
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
