CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team's defense held Chico State to one point in overtime to earn a 77-65 victory in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest on Saturday at Art Acker Gymnasium.
The Cougars improve to 12-9 overall and 9-7 in conference action. The Wildcats fall to 14-8 overall and 9-7 in CCAA play.
"Every single one of our kids stepped up tonight," said CSUSM head coach
Renee Jimenez. "Chico is not an easy place to play, and they are by far the grittiest and toughest team in the CCAA. So to be able to get this win on the road shows a lot about the character of our team."
The Cougars earn their first CCAA series sweep of the season after defeating the Wildcats on CSUSM's Homecoming Night, 63-61, at The Sports Center.
Junior forward
Savannah Camp tallied her fourth double-double of the season while leading the Cougars with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Ashley Jenkins chipped in 20 points and dished out a game-high eight assists. Senior guard

With 2:21 remaining in regulation, Camp sunk a 3-pointer to give CSUSM a 63-62 lead. Jenkins sunk the backend of a pair of free throws to make it a two-point game. After a Wildcat timeout, Chico State executed a play that ended with McKena Barker tying the game with a layup while drawing a foul. A missed free throw took CSUSM into its fourth overtime game this season.
The Cougars went on a 12-1 run in the five minutes of overtime with Armenta getting things started making 3-of-3 at the charity stripe after being fouled behind the arc. Chico State's lone point came on a free throw by Sherise Porchia with 53 seconds on the clock.
Four Wildcats reached double digits in scoring with Madison Wong knocking down 15 points. Sammy Dehart registered 14 points, while McKena Barker and Whitney Branham added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
