SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior
Raegan Lillie closed out 2017 with her first double-double of the season to lead the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team to an 82-68 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over visiting San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon.
After finishing the opening quarter even at 16-16, the Cougars would outscore SF State in each of the three final quarters.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in conference action. The Gators drop to 4-7 on the season and 2-6 in CCAA play.
Lillie tallied 16 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 performance at the charity stripe, and pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds with five coming on the offensive boards. Senior
Stephanie Somers registered 15 points, knocking down three 3-pointers in the contest. Senior
Lupe Cruz added 11 points and a season-best four blocked shots while classmate
Kaitlyn Reina chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.
CSUSM took a 37-32 lead into the break after shooting 45.3 percent from the field.
The Cougars capitalized on SF State's 13 turnovers, scoring 17 points. CSUSM won the battle on the boards with 45 to the Gators' 32 rebounds.
Four Gators reached double digits with Jacqueline Moss leading the way with 16 points.
The Cougars host the Chico State Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 5 in The Sports Center. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
