SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Playing in front of the biggest crowd of the season, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team punched its ticket to the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament with a sweep over UC San Diego (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) in the Cougars' home finale on Saturday night.
The Cougars (14-9) moved into sole possession of second place in the CCAA South Division standings with the win. UCSD falls to 16-7 overall and 10-5 in conference play.

Maddy Newcombe each notched nine kills in the match. Fortuné collected six total blocks including two solos while Newcombe and junior
Courtney Hulla chipped in four total blocks. Freshman libero
Grecia Cordero-Barr tallied 16 digs and three aces.
The Cougars trailed in both the first and second set by as many as four points but fought back to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the third set, CSUSM jumped out to a 7-1 lead early and never allowed the Tritons to get within four points.
CSUSM out-blocked (10-7) the Tritons and finished with a 6-2 advantage of service aces.
UCSD was led by Amanda Colla who registered a match-high 17 kills.
The Cougars conclude their regular season next week against Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills before traveling to San Francisco for the CCAA Tournament Nov. 16-18.
