ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team swept Humboldt State, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, on Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena.
After a slow start, the Cougars came from behind to win the first set and cruised through the final two sets to record CSUSM's second consecutive sweep and fourth of the season.
"This is a big road win for us," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "Our team's focus and determination are being tested on the road and we are not only gaining experience but also confidence with these wins. Several players are stepping up in key situations. We are ready to get back home and continue to build."
CSUSM improves to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in conference action. The Jacks drop to 3-12, 2-7 in CCAA play.
Sophomore
Madi Anderson recorded her third double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Junior
Courtney Hulla and freshman
Micah Hébert each chipped in eight kills. Sophomore
Maddy Newcombe tallied six kills and five total blocks. Sophomore
Aleese Wheaton was just shy of notching a double-double, finishing with 18 assists and nine digs.
CSUSM recorded a .277 hitting percentage, highest against a CCAA opponent and second-best of the season. The Cougars held the Jacks to a .133 clip.
The Cougars defeated HSU in every category including out-blocking the Jacks, 5-1.
Alex Lolland and Anita Elchenour led HSU with nine and seven kills, respectively.
The Cougars host three CCAA matches in five days next week, beginning with Cal State L.A. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
