Cougars Travel North to Face Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team makes its first trek of the season to the Bay area this week, facing Cal State East Bay on Thursday night and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon.

STAR OF THE MONTH
  • Savannah Camp was named San Diego Star of the Month after averaging 16.6 points and 7.8 rebounds.
  • Camp will join Declan Daly (men's basketball), Tyler Place (baseball), Raelyn Werley (track & field) and Natalie Rodriguez (cross country) at the 71st Salute to the Champions banquet on February 21.
  • Camp, along with men's basketball senior guard Tyson Kygar, as CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month for December. 
THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
  • CSUSM went 1-1 last week.
  • The Cougars came up just short against visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills last Thursday, falling 67-64 to the Toros. This was the fifth consecutive CSUSM game where the contest was decided by four points or less.
  • Camp scored a career-best 29 points to take down Cal State L.A., 77-68, last Saturday. CSUSM shot lights out in the second half, going 15-for-29 from the field, including a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the arc.

RUNDOWN OF CAL STATE EAST BAY
  • CSUEB has a 0-2 advantage over CSUSM in the all-time series record.
  • The Pioneers closed out 2016 with back-to-back victories over Humboldt State (79-71) and Sonoma State (63-46).
  • CSUEB ranks No. 3 in the CCAA in 3-point field goals percentage (.333) yet No. 11 in 3-point field goal defense (.344).
  • Senior guard Shomari Harris is second in the CCAA in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game.
 
CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY BREAKDOWN
  • CSUSM has a 1-2 record against CSUMB.
  • The Otters broke a seven-game losing skid with a 66-47 Humboldt State on New Years Eve.
  • CSUMB leads the CCAA in both 3-point field goal percentage (.361) and 3-point field goal defense percentage (.253).
  • Victoria Dorn is the CCAA leader in 3-point field goals, averaging 4.1 per game.
 
THE CCAA CONFERENCE
  • Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
  • The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
 
THE JIMENEZ FILE
  • Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
  • Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 in her eight seasons coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.
