THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM went 0-2 last week.
- The Cougars dropped a 68-47 decision to visiting Cal Poly Pomona last Thursday night. Freshman Chloe Eackles recorded her first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
- For the third time this season, a CSUSM women's basketball game was not determined during regulation. Unlike the other previous times, the Cougars did not come out on top, falling to Humboldt State, 60-59, in double overtime.
- In the CCAA statistics, CSUSM remains second in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.262) and third in free throw percentage (.727).
RUNDOWN OF UC SAN DIEGO
- CSUSM is 0-2 against UC San Diego in the all-time series.
- In their first meeting last year, the Cougars jumped out to a 21-13 lead in the opening quarter but eventually fell 73-60 at UCSD.
- CSUSM fell to then-No. 20 UC San Diego on Feb. 18, 2016. Savannah Camp went 7-of-9 from the field for 14 points.
- UCSD is the CCAA leader in scoring (69.5 ppg), field goal percentage (.425), assists (16.2 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (1.07). The Tritons rank last in steals (82) and steals per game (5.13) in the conference.
- Junior guard Dalayna Sampton and senior forward Cassie MacLeod are both ranked in the top 10 in the CCAA statistics at fourth (7.8) and seventh (6.8), respectively.
CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO BREAKDOWN
- CSUSB holds a 2-1 advantage over the Cougars in the all-time series.
- The Cougars dropped a 69-66 heartbreaker against the Coyotes at The Sports Center on Nov. 30 of last year. Senior guard Ashley Jenkins scored a game-high 20 points to go along with three assists and four steals.
- The Coyotes are undefeated in 2017 with wins over Chico State (63-58), Sonoma State (65-52) and San Francisco State (56-52).
- CSUSB is last in the CCAA in 3-point field goals made at 37 (averaging 3.1 per game). The Coyotes dominate on defense, leading the CCAA with 41.3 rebounds and blocking 4.17 shots per game.
- Mya Johnson ranks 12th in the NCAA Division II with a 4.3 offensive rebounding average.
THE CCAA CONFERENCE
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
THE JIMENEZ FILE
- Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
- Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 in her eight seasons coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.
