SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Humboldt State's Ashlyn Cox made the game-winning layup with time expiring as the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 60-59 double overtime loss in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Saturday at The Sports Center.

The Cougars drop to 8-7 overall and 5-5 in conference play. The Lumberjacks improve to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in the CCAA.

CSUSM shot 25.8 percent (17-66) from the field, 28.6 percent (4-14) from behind the arc and 63.6 percent (21-33) from the charity stripe. HSU went 38.1 percent (24-63) on field goals, 18.5 percent (5-27) on 3-pointers and 50 percent (7-14) from the free throw line. The Cougars outrebounded the Lumberjacks 45-37. The turnover battle was even at 19-19.

Savannah Camp led CSUSM with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Ashley Jenkins contributed 16 points. Tyra Turner and Cox were HSU's leading scorers with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

CSUSM started slow and trailed 10-5 after the first quarter. The Cougars outscored HSU 17-5 in the second quarter to lead 22-15 at halftime.

CSUSM grabbed a 10-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 37-27, thanks to a 3-pointer by
Natalie Delgado. The Lumberjacks scored 18 points in the fourth quarter and limited the Cougars to eight points to even the score, 45-45, and force overtime.

Two free throws from Camp gave CSUSM a two-point lead, 54-52, with 11 seconds left in the first overtime period. A layup from HSU's Kindall Murie with eight ticks left forced a second extra period.

A Camp free throw gave the Cougars a one-point advantage, 59-58, with three seconds left in double overtime. HSU's Catherine Reese missed a three-pointer, but Cox was there for the offensive rebound and game-winning layup.

CSUSM will travel to and play local rival UC San Diego on Thursday, Jan. 19 for its next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.Â
