STAR OF THE MONTH
- Savannah Camp was named San Diego Star of the Month after averaging 16.6 points and 7.8 rebounds.
- Camp will join Declan Daly (men's basketball), Tyler Place (baseball), Raelyn Werley (track & field) and Natalie Rodriguez (cross country) at the 71st Salute to the Champions banquet on February 21.
- Camp, along with men's basketball senior guard Tyson Kygar, was CSUSM's Student-Athletes of the Month for December.
THE COUGARS AT A GLANCE
- CSUSM went 1-1 last week.
- The Cougars fell 59-44 at Cal State East Bay last Thursday in conference action. Senior guard Ashley Jenkins led the Cougars, shooting 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from the field and going 4-of-5 at the charity stripe for 17 points. .
- Playing at Cal State Monterey Bay where Head Coach Renee Jimenez began her head coaching career, the Cougars took care of business by defeating the Otters 58-52 on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Raegan Lillie led all scorers with 18 points after going 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 at the free throw line. The Cougars defense held NCAA Division II 3-point field goal leader Victoria Dorn, who entering the game was averaging 4.0 per game, scoreless in the contest.
- RUNDOWN OF CAL POLY POMONA
- The all-time record between CSUSM and CPP is set at 1-1.
- The Cougars claimed a 67-64 overtime victory at CPP on Dec. 10 with junior guard Raegan Lillie making a jumper to force the game into overtime with 34 seconds remaining in regulation. Junior forward Kaitlyn Reina made a pair of free throws with eight seconds on the clock to secure the CSUSM win.
- CPP leads the conference in scoring defense, holding its opponents to an average of 56.9 points.
- Priscilla Brooks ranks second in the CCAA in rebounds, averaging 8.3 per game.
HUMBOLDT STATE BREAKDOWN
- The Cougars are on a two-game win streak against the Lumberjacks with the all-time record even at 2-2.
- The Lumberjacks snapped a four-game skid that closed out 2016 to win back-to-back road games against San Francisco State (52-48) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (79-65) to start off the new year.
- The Jacks are second to last in the CCAA in both scoring offense (57.6) and scoring defense (68.7).
- Catharine Rees ranks second in the conference in 3-point field goals per game at 2.9.
THE CCAA CONFERENCE
- Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego.
- The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
THE JIMENEZ FILE
- Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her second season in charge of the Cougar women's basketball team, a program that is only in its sixth season of existence.
- Jimenez has compiled a 132-89 in her eight seasons coaching in the CCAA, spending two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.
