Cougars Split with Concordia
CSUSM earned a doubleheader split with Concordia University Irvine last Friday at CSUSM Softball Field. Ashley Dagenais dealt a complete-game, four-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory in game one, handing head coach Laurie Nevarez her 400th career victory in 13 seasons as an intercollegiate head coach. Melyssa Bellamy's RBI double provided the difference in the game. In game two, the Cougars scored a pair of runs in their first at-bat, but a five-run sixth inning from the Eagles secured a 6-2 victory for CUI.

Coach Nevarez Reaches 400 Career Victories
Head coach Laurie Nevarez is in her third season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Hired in 2014, Nevarez has put together an 81-53-1 (.604) record in her first two years while mentoring 13 all-conference selections. Over her 12-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 400-169-2 (.702) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.

New Territory
After nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16.
