CSUSM & UCSD Split First Two Games
CSUSM and UC San Diego met on Tuesday of last week in San Marcos and split the opening doubleheader of the series. A complete-game five hitter from Cougar starter
Ashley Dagenais and a two-run double by
Melyssa Bellamy led the Cougars to a 2-1 win in game one. In game two, the Cougars nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but
Lindsay Cerulle was called out at the plate to end the game, 4-3 in favor of the Tritons.
UCSD Preview
All-time vs. UCSD: 1-7 (.125)
Last Meeting: W, 2-1 & L, 3-4 (April 12, 2016)
UCSD Breakdown: UCSD picked off the middle two contests of a four-game set in La Jolla this weekend against Cal State San Bernardino. The Tritons wrap up their 2016 regular season on Wednesday against the Cougars. UCSD, currently third in the CCAA standings, can lock up a spot in the four-team CCAA Tournament with one win over the Cougars.
CSUSB Preview
All-time vs. CSUSB: 1-2 (.333)
Last meeting: W, 8-1 (Feb. 13, 2015);
Naomi Amu hit a grand slam,
Olivia Lucatuorto homered and
Ashley Dagenais delivered a solid five innings of work as the Cougars cruised to victory in their first game of the 2015 Desert Stinger Classic in Las Vegas. The Cougars had dropped their first two home games of the 2015 campaign to the same Coyotes on Feb. 7.
CSUSB Breakdown: The Coyotes are coming off a doubleheader split with UC San Diego. CSUSB is fighting for one of the final spots in the CCAA tournament and is currently on the outside-looking-in heading into the last weekend of conference play. CSUSB will likely need to sweep and receive some help from Sonoma State and SFSU in order to make the tournament.
