SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team hosts UC San Diego in a midweek California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The second half of the teams' four-game series is scheduled for next week.

Cougars Rained Out in Hayward After DH Split
The second half of the Cougars' and Pioneers' four-game set was rained out on Saturday, but that was after CSUSM and CSUEB split their Friday doubleheader at Pioneer Softball Field.
Holly Fauria went 3-for-3 with an RBI,
Lindsay Cerulle was 2-for-4 and
Ashley Dagenais pitched a complete game for the second straight start in a 7-4 game-one victory. CSUEB won game two in five innings, 11-3.
UCSD Preview
All-time vs. UCSD: 0-6 (.000)
Last Meeting: L, 1-2 & L, 3-8 (Mar. 21, 2010); UCSD scored in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one to take a 2-1 victory in the opening game. CSUSM scored three runs in its first at-bat of game two, but UCSD answered with five in the bottom of the first on its way to eight unanswered runs.
UCSD Breakdown: The Tritons are coming off a 3-1 series victory at San Francisco State in which they moved from fifth to fourth place in the CCAA standings. After dropping game one, they edged the Gators 6-5 in Friday's game two. UCSD beat SFSU 6-0 and 5-2 on Saturday. Kelsi Maday leads the CCAA in runs scored (30).
CSUSM Moves Up in Standings
The Cougars moved up a spot in the CCAA conference standings with their Friday split at CSUEB, flip-flopping with Cal State Dominguez Hills. UCSD traded spots with SFSU after its series victory in San Francisco.

Coach Nevarez Reaches 400 Career Victories
Head coach
Laurie Nevarez is in her third season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Hired in 2014, Nevarez has put together an 82-54-1 (.602) record in her first two years while mentoring 13 all-conference selections. Over her 12-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 401-170-2 (.702) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
New Territory
After nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
