Chico State Breakdown: The Wildcats are in the midst of a six-game win streak after recording three-game series sweeps over Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego. Chico State's pitching staff has the 14th best ERA at 3.00 among NCAA Division II schools. The Wildcat offense isn't too shabby either with a .332 batting average, ranking them 25th in the nation.
Last Series RecapThe Cougars played their first three-game series last weekend, traveling to Turlock to take on the Warriors of Stanislaus State. CSUSM put together a seven-run ninth inning for a come-from-behind 12-6 victory in the series opener. The Cougars dropped both ends of their doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 5-2 and 8-2.

New Season, New SurroundingsThe Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play in 2016 after playing its first nine seasons in the NAIA. CSUSM made three postseason appearances during its time in the NAIA.

Dennis Pugh enters his tenth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Pugh has accumulated a 254-143-2 on field record while grooming 29 all-conference selections. Prior to his time at CSUSM, Pugh spent 27 years as the head baseball coach at Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
