TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Stanislaus State on Saturday in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Warriors evened the three-game series with a 5-2 game one victory before walking away with an 8-2 win in the rubber game.
The Cougars fall to 15-16 overall and 7-12 in conference action. The Warriors improve to 14-10, 7-7 in CCAA.
Senior
Jon Putnam collected three of CSUSM's nine hits on the day.
The Cougars return home to host Chico State in a three-game series next weekend.
Game 1: Stanislaus State 5 – CSUSM 2The Warriors put together a four-run third inning, highlighted by a Patrick Mulry RBI triple.
Both of CSUSM's runs that came in the sixth and eighth innings were on Warrior errors.
Stanislaus State's Jordan Kron tossed a complete game for his fifth win of the season. Senior
Emilio Esquibel (2-4) took the loss after relinquishing four runs on four hits in his seven-inning outing.
Game 2: Stanislaus State 8 – CSUSM 2The Warriors once again jumped out to a 4-0 lead, this time spreading out a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.
CSUSM scored its first run in the top of the third. Freshman
Tyler Ankrom hit a one-out single up the middle and later scored on sophomore
Tyler Place's single to left center.
Stanislaus State tallied a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead.
CSUSM's final run came in the top of the ninth on a bases-loaded walk after Stanislaus State pitcher filled the bases on two walks and a hit batter.
Senior
Manny Barragan took the loss after 5 1/3 innings on the hill, giving up eight runs – six earned – on seven hits. Stanislaus State starter Robbie Devries improved to 1-1 on the year after tossing six innings and relinquishing one run.
