Cougars Pick Off Series Finale at Sonoma StateAmanda Horbasch's three-hit, eight-strikeout performance and a solo home run by
Abby Allen – her first collegiate homer – helped CSUSM snag a 1-0 victory in the series finale last week in Rohnert Park.

Last time vs. SFSU: W, 9-0 (5 inn.) Feb. 1, 2014; A seven-run, nine-hit fifth inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Rodriguez led the Cougars to a run-rule victory over the Gators in the second game of the 2014 Best of The West Invitational in Turlock.
SFSU Breakdown: The Gators jumped from seventh to a tie for third place in the conference standings with a four-game sweep earlier this week against Cal State East Bay. SFSU ranks towards the bottom of the conference in team batting (.258), but ranks fifth in team ERA (2.81).

Laurie Nevarez is in her third season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Hired in 2014, Nevarez has put together a 80-48-1 (.624) record in her first two years while mentoring 13 all-conference selections. Over her 12-year, head-coaching career, Nevarez has put together a 399-164-2 (.708) overall record. Prior to her time at CSUSM, Nevarez coached NCAA Division III Redlands for 10 seasons.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
