SAN DIEGO – Frederik Jahr,
Justin Washington and the men's 4x400m relay earned victories on Saturday for the Cal State San Marcos track & field teams at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet. The men's team finished second overall in the competition with 252 points, while the women's squad placed seventh with 161.5 points. Seven more Cougars logged qualifying marks for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships, bringing the total to 35 student-athletes.
Jahr picked up his second win of the season in the high jump, improving his CCAA Championship qualifying mark with a season-best leap of 2.01m. Jahr has finished first or second in all three meets he has competed in this year.
Washington grabbed the top spot in the 800m with a time of 1:54.15, his second career victory in the event as a Cougar.
The men's 4x400m relay of Washington,
Fereon Meferia,
Matt Doyle and
Aaron Hickman won with a time of 3:23.29.
Burtland Dixon placed second in the 100m and improved his CCAA Championship qualifying time with a personal-best 10.90. Dixon also finished fourth in the 200m, running a personal-best 22.06 that qualified him in a second event for the CCAA Championships.
Joshrey Estelle was the top collegiate jumper and finished second overall in the long jump, leaping 6.63m to set a new personal-best and improve his CCAA qualifying mark. Estelle qualified for CCAA Championships in the triple jump with a jump of 12.42 that resulted in an 11th place finish.
In the 110-meter hurdles,
Kyle Johnson (15.25) and
Bryce Johnson (15.79) finished second and fifth, respectively.
Caesar Castillo took third in the 1500m with a season-best 4:05.27.
Issac Vallejo placed seventh with personal-best time of 4:08.53 that qualified him for CCAA Championships.
Trelani Waters finished fourth in the 800m, setting a new personal-best of 1:56.13.
Alex Gronotte, (1:56.18) and Meferia (1:56.57) were close on his tail, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Gronotte's time qualified him for a second CCAA Championship event. He previously qualified in the 1500m.
Josh Maffei qualified for CCAA Championships in the discus with a throw of 42.87m that was good for fourth overall.
In the men's 4x100m relay,
Jacob Menegos, Dixon,
Tyler Luis and
Nathan Hale, Jr. placed fourth with a time of 42.75.
Doyle came in sixth in the 400m with a personal-best 50.27.
Competing for the first time this season,
Jamal Brewer qualified for CCAA Championships in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a personal-best of 13.47m. Brewer also placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.48m.
Patrick Holstrom finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 50.88m.
Hale, Jr. qualified for the CCAA Championships in the 200m, running a personal-best 22.77 and placing 14th overall.
On the women's side,
Lauren Wyckoff set a personal-best in the 400m, finishing third with a time of 58.86. It is the third consecutive meet in which Wyckoff has registered a personal-best in the event.
Natalie Rodriguez finished fourth in both the 800m (2:17.89) and 1500m (4:37.24). Rodriguez improved her CCAA Championship qualifying time in the 1500m and qualified for a second event with her time in the 800m.
Charlotte Kuzminsky finished seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:42.42 to qualify in her second CCAA Championship event. Kuzminsky is also qualified in the 800m.
Tina Girolamo finished ninth in the 1500, posting a PR of 4:44.14 and improve her CCAA qualifying time. Girolamo also set a personal-best in the 800m, finishing seventh and qualifying in a second event.
Elizabeth Buckle qualified for her first CCAA championship event, finishing sixth and hitting the 800m qualifier with a time of 2:18.01.
The women's 4x100m of
Jolene Widmer,
Kamarria Rehn, Wyckoff and
Jasmine Williams ran a season-best 49.13 to finish fourth. The 4x400m relay of Wyckoff, Kuzminsky, Buckle and
Danielle Tildahl also placed fourth with a time of 4:03.90.
Rehn finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.68 and placed seventh in the 200m with a personal-best 25.76 that qualified her in the event for CCAA Championships.
Domenique Barnes threw 32.99m in the javelin to finish fourth.
Jasmine Williams finished eighth in the javelin with personal-best and CCAA Championship qualifying throw of 28.70m. Williams, who has hit the qualifying standard in three events (100H, long jump, javelin) also placed 10th in the high jump with a leap of 1.45m.
Kianna Williams came in eighth in the shot put and qualified for CCAA Championships with a personal-best throw of 10.48m.
Noelle Bediamol tied for eighth in the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 10.25m.
Arianna Garcia-Swantek qualified for CCAA Championships in the 1500m, setting a new personal-best of 4:53.42 to finish 13th overall.

Aztec Invitational, with two days of action beginning at
San Diego State University on Thursday, March 24 at the
SDSU Sports Deck.
