SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Due to the possibility of rain on Sunday, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team will play a doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, March 4. The Cougars will return home to host the Coyotes as scheduled in a twinbill on Saturday, March 5 at CSUSM Baseball Field.

Previous Weekend RecapIn their first day of CCAA competition, the Cougars defeated visiting Cal State L.A. in walk-off fashion, 3-2, on Friday, Feb. 26 at CSUSM Baseball Field. The Cougars dropped the next three games to the Golden Eagles. For the series, junior
Colin Dvorak batted .500 (8-for-16) with three doubles and four RBIs.

Last Meeting(s): W, 6-5 & L, 3-9 (March 5, 2011). The Cougars halted a strong CSUSB comeback to take the first game 6-5 with a Trent Jemmett two-run homer highlighting the twinbill opener. CSUSM was out-hit 11-8 and wasn't able to take advantage of the two Coyote errors in the nightcap.
CSUSB Breakdown: The Coyotes suffered a four-game series sweep at the hands of UC San Diego, being outscored 50-16. CSUSB is at the bottom of the CCAA statistics in hitting (.237 BA), pitching (7.11 ERA) and fielding (22 errors).

New Season, New SurroundingsThe Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play in 2016 after playing its first nine seasons in the NAIA. CSUSM made three postseason appearances during its time in the NAIA.
The Pugh FileHead coach
Dennis Pugh enters his tenth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Pugh has accumulated a 254-143-2 on field record while grooming 29 all-conference selections. Prior to his time at CSUSM, Pugh spent 27 years as the head baseball coach at Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
