OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team led for the majority of the game, but could not squeak out a win on Saturday night as the Cougars lost 59-56 to Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
The Cougars have dropped six straight and move to 5-14 overall and 3-11 in CCAA play. CSULA improves to 8-13, 6-9 CCAA.
The Cougars led by four with 2:15 remaining, but did not connect on another field goal the rest of the game.
Christine Delapina's layup tied it before a pair of free throws by Bree Parsons put the Golden Eagles ahead by two with 13 seconds remaining.
The Cougars called timeout and drew up a play to try and get the tying bucket, but
Savannah Camp bounced a pass off the shin of
Kylie Coppi to turn the ball back over to CSULA.
The teams traded free throws, but the Cougars once again got a chance to tie it when Rikke Fabricius only hit 1-of-2 with two seconds left.
Ontiveros got a decent look while falling to her right, but her game-tying attempt missed short.
The Cougars head to the road next week to take on San Francisco State and Sonoma State.
